The ketogenic diet has become increasingly popular for its ability to help individuals lose weight and improve their overall health. This low-carb, high-fat diet aims to put your body into ketosis, burning fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. While most of the focus is on food choices, it's essential to consider what you drink when following the keto diet.

Water

There is no getting away from it! Our bodies are made up of at least 60% of this precious liquid gold. Water is always the best option for hydration, and it's even more critical when following the keto diet.

Staying hydrated helps prevent the symptoms of the keto flu, which can occur in the first few weeks of the diet. Try to drink at least eight glasses of water per day. You can add a pinch of salt or other flavoring agents (like cucumber or lemon slices) if you need more electrolytes.

Coffee

Coffee is a popular drink for many people and can be a great option when following the keto diet. Black coffee is low in calories and carbs and can help boost energy levels.

However, be careful when adding cream and sugar to your coffee, as these can increase carbs. Try adding a splash of MCT oil or coconut oil instead.

Tea

Plain tea (without added sugar or cream) is a low-calorie drink that can help you stay hydrated. It's also rich in antioxidants suitable for your immune system! Tea is also a good source of caffeine, giving you energy during the day or if you're sleepy. The perfect low carb drink!

There are many types of tea: green, black, oolong, and white are just some examples! Each type has its flavor profile, so experiment with different kinds until you find one that suits your taste buds best!

Bone Broth

Bone broth is a good source of vitamins, minerals, collagen, and gelatin. It also contains chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine, and other beneficial compounds. If you want to add more bone broth to your diet, any local grocery store should have it in the broth aisle.

Sparkling Water

Sparkling water is a great beverage option for those following the keto diet. It’s a zero-calorie, sugar-free alternative to sugary drinks like soda and juice, making it an ideal option for those trying to reduce their carb intake.

Most brands of sparkling water are naturally flavored and contain no added sugar or artificial sweeteners, which means they won’t interfere with ketosis or cause a spike in blood sugar levels.

Additionally, many sparkling water brands also offer unflavored options, making them a versatile option for mixing with low-carb spirits or using as a base for homemade keto-friendly cocktails.

Alcohol

While alcohol is generally not recommended when following the keto diet, there are still some low-carb options that you can enjoy in moderation.

It's essential to remember that alcohol can slow down weight loss progress and may even kick you out of ketosis, so it's vital to consume alcohol in moderation and choose low-carb options when possible.

Spirits

Spirits like vodka, gin, tequila, and whiskey are all low in carbs and can be enjoyed on the keto diet.

They are typically consumed straight or mixed with a low-carb mixer, such as diet soda, club soda, or sparkling water. Be sure to avoid sweet mixers like juice or tonic water, which are high in carbs.

While most wines contain a moderate amount of carbs, some wines are lower in carbs than others.

Dry wines like Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon are all relatively low in carbs and can be enjoyed in moderation on the keto diet.

Low-Carb Cocktails

If you're looking for a low-carb cocktail, there are some options to consider. For example, a gin and tonic made with diet tonic water or a vodka soda made with club soda are both relatively low in carbs.

You can also make your low-carb cocktail by mixing spirits with low-carb mixers like fresh lime juice, fresh mint, or sugar-free syrups.

The keto diet is possible if you have the correct information, including following it properly with food and drinks that fit your preferences and tastes. It's not just about cutting out carbs – it's also about eating more fat and protein, which helps keep blood sugar levels steady throughout the day.

If you're looking for new ways to enjoy coffee or tea while following this diet plan, we hope our keto-friendly drinks list has inspired you!
